In the past, I was thinking what is the purpose of the bible? Is the bible just to write the story of the earth creation and the story of Israel and the story of Jesus Christ? How many Christians take the bible as the word of God? It is written that the bible which is the scripture and it is from God because it is written in 2 Timothy 3:16-17 that all scripture is the inspiration of God, and (bible) is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.
Even Jesus Himself depended on the word of God when He was on earth, especially the time He was tempted by Satan in the wilderness. Three times He said “It is written” to Satan to overcome all the temptations. Jesus even said that man should not live by bread alone but should also live on the words that proceeded from the mouth of God (Matthew 4:4 & Luke 4:4).
Why do we need to live by the word of God each day? I strongly believe that earth is corrupted because it is written in Romans 8:22 that the whole creation is groaning and labor in birth pangs. How can we live righteous and enjoy life in such a corrupted world? How did Jesus live a righteous and joyful life on earth when He was still a small boy?
I believe Joseph and Mary must have taught Him the word of God while growing up because they knew Jesus would be the Savior of the world, and His destiny would be an extraordinary one. During Jesus growing up, He was fed with the word of God by His earthly parents, and He also followed them to the temple of God to hear the rabbis teaching the scriptures.
Jesus depended on the word of God when He was on earth, because He was fully Man and fully God. He needed God’s word to live a divine life on earth and God let Satan to temp Jesus so that He could sympathize with our weaknesses. Then Jesus can fully understand how weak a man is and He shall overcome Satan as a perfect Man by fulfilling the law on earth as Man with the word of God as His strength.
Now the question, how do we live on the word of God each day? Reading the bible, listening to sermons or reading Christian books that unveil Jesus?
Well… I would say none of these if you only read for the sake of gaining knowledge only. Gaining the knowledge does you no good as Apostle Paul said that knowledge puffs up (1 Corinthians 8:1).
So what do we do then?
Apostle Paul had already given us the answer in 2 Corinthians 5:7. Paul told the Corinthians to walk by believing and not by seeing the circumstances. Believing in what? Believe in the scripture that says about the things you want. For example, you are in debt and you live from hand to mouth each day. If you live your life by seeing the circumstances, you will surely cut down on all expenses, take up more jobs, and borrow money to clear debts. This is what the people in the world would do.
What should a believer do? Memorize the scriptures that tell you about wealth. There are many bible promises on God providing for you and blessing you.
Below are some of the bible verses:
You shall lend to many nations, but you shall not borrow. (Deuteronomy 28:12)
I (God) have given you a land which you did not labor, and cities which you did not build, and you dwell in them; you eat of the vineyards and olive groves which you did not plant. (Joshua 24:13)
For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for our sakes He became poor, that you through His poverty might become rich. (2 Corinthians 8:9)
And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:19)
Now to Him (God) who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think. (Ephesians 3:20)
After memorizing these bible verses, speak out each verse as often as possible each day. Speak out even if you do not believe and you shall see a miracle. It is not I who say this.
It is written in Mark 11:23 that whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says. These words were spoken by Jesus to His disciples after they witnessed the withered fig tree Jesus cursed. Jesus taught them how to have the same outcome as Him.
There are three ‘says’ in the verse and only one ‘believes’. What Jesus is telling the disciples is that whatever result they want they just need to speak forth. It is written that life and death are in the power of the tongue (Proverbs 18:21). If you speak forth the word of God, there will be greater impact and effect on your circumstances.
I remember Pastor Prince said that we, men, tend to believe in the things and words of men more than God’s words. No one seems to question whether the plane they are taking will be safe, or the elevator they are taking won’t fall halfway, or the food they are eating are not poison. However, when it comes to believing in the word of God, many Christians seem to have doubt and can hardly believe that it is real.
These few days I have been listening to Pastor Prince’s sermons and the Holy Spirit unveiled another dimension of faith unto me, and I seem to feel another burden of load is lifted off me. I am much lighter in my spirit and can enjoy more in the Lord. I come to realize that I do not need to come up with any faith at all for any miracle I want to experience.
All I need is just to speak forth the bible promises. For example, if I am sick or hurt physically, all I need to do is to speak forth Isaiah 53:4-5 and then declare “By Jesus’ stripes, I am completely healed from the crown of my head to the soles of my feet”. I can also read the four gospels and see how Jesus healed all those who approached Him and none left without healing.
If I do not have faith initially, as I continue to speak forth God’s words, faith will begin to arise from within. Faith is never a mind thing, faith is spiritual. No man can have faith by his own understanding. Faith arises only when the Holy Spirit within gives you the faith. This is why Jesus told the disciples to have faith as a mustard seed (Matthew 17:20 and Luke 17:6). I have explained about having faith as a mustard seed in the earlier blog “How To See Your Faith Grow In Jesus” so read it to understand why even if you had little or no faith can still experience miracles.
The moment you start to speak for the bible promises, you are acting out in faith even if you do not feel any faith. This is because you will never do anything without a slightest belief. Will you do something if you completely have no faith? Imagine someone telling you that if you go to a certain place and you will be very rich, but you do not believe at all. Will you entertain him with this conversation? Of course not! Therefore, begin to speak out the bible promises concerning the area you want miracle to happen. If you cannot find, just speak forth Ephesians 3:20 because the verse says God is able to do more than what you ask or think. This covers every area of your life.
Let’s live this world by the word of God. Even though we are in this world, we are not of this world. This is what Jesus said in John 17:11-14, and Jesus said He had given us God’s word. Therefore we need to live on the word of God each day by believing what His word declares and not what our circumstances say. This is tough, so you need the Holy Spirit to help you. Just pray this, “Holy Spirit, give me the grace to live each day on the word of God and give me the faith to believe His word and not what I see. Amen.”
Faith will begin to grow by the Holy Spirit if you continue to speak forth the word of God each day. Jesus is the author and finisher of faith (Hebrews 12:2), so it is Him who will do the work and not you. Never bother whether you have any faith, just speak God’s word, and let Jesus do the rest.
Christian life is supposed to be super easy because we are living on the finished work of the cross of Jesus. We are not living in the Old Testament where the people were living under the Old Covenant. We are living in the New Covenant where everything depends on Jesus; everything upon Him and nothing on us.
May this revelation be a help in your Christian walk with Jesus. I am learning to rest even more each day as the Spirit is leading me.
Be greatly blessed in Christ. Shalom to whoever is reading and abundance of grace be upon you and your loved ones.
