Have You Put On The Complete Armor Of God

I believe there are many preachers preaching on the topic of the armor of God. I heard it too but my spirit was not liberated. I love what Pastor Joseph Prince said about the armor of God in his book ‘Spiritual Warfare’. My spirit resonates with what he teaches about the armor of God. I praise the Lord for raising Pastor Joseph Prince to preach His word and to teach believers the word of God with understanding.

One night as I was in bed, I had a thought to turn to Ephesians 6 to read up the passage on the armor of God, and my bible was on top of my bedside drawer (it was only at that moment). When I read Ephesians 6:10-17, it seemed like a river of water flowed into my spirit and I had an understanding: the order of the armor of God being mentioned by Paul has its purpose. However, I did not pursue further to study in-depth.

Few days later, I was reading Ephesians 6 according to my bible reading plan (it is not fixed; I read the book according to what I feel like after asking the Lord to guide me). Then the Lord opened my understanding of the armor of God in Ephesians 6. And now, the Lord did not stop there but continue to give me more understanding so I decide to pen it down and post on my blog to share with others.

It is written in Ephesians 6:10-20 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; praying always with all prayer and supplication for all saints – and for me, that the utterance may be given to me, that I may open my mouth boldly to make known the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains; that in it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.

Now the Lord has opened my eyes and certain words seem to pop up and cause me to pay attention and I desire to study more. The words ‘whole armor of God’ struck me. Why did Paul write the whole armor of God and not just armor of God? Both NAS (New American Standard Bible) and NIV say Put on the full armor of God. This implies that there might be believers putting on partial armor of God and they keep wondering why they are living a life of defeat and not victoriously. So I shall begin to explain line upon line what the Lord revealed to me.

Paul told the Christians in Ephesus to be strong in the Lord with His mighty power in their lives (Ephesians 6:10). He did not stop there. He told them to put on the whole armor of God so that they shall be strong in the Lord with His power to stand against the devil and his attacks (Ephesians 6:11). Now why did Apostle Paul in the Holy Spirit write put on the whole armor of God? Does it mean it is possible for a believer not to have the armor of God on after he accepted Christ in his life? I believe so. I have seen believers living a life of sickness or a life of lack. That is not the life Jesus Christ has come to give us, because it is written in John 10:10 that Jesus has come to give us life and He desires us to have this life more abundantly. It is also written in 1 Timothy 6:17 that God is the One who gives us richly all things to enjoy life. The life a believer ought to have is a life of abundant joy.

If a believer is not enjoying life, I believe he or she is not putting on the whole armor of God as described by Apostle Paul. Why did I say that there are believers not putting on the whole armor of God? This is because in Ephesians 6:13 Paul told the Christians again to take up the whole armor of God so that they will remain in victory in Christ. So if you do not put on the whole armor of God, you might be suffering from the devil’s attacks.

Are you putting on the full or complete armor of God? Or you are putting partial armor of God? Be sure to understand what the full armor of God is so that you will always put on the complete armor of God. The Lord just led me to Romans 13:12-14 The night is far spent, the day is at hand. Therefore let us cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light. Let us walk properly, as in the day, not in revelry and drunkenness, not in lewdness and lust, not in strife and envy. But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts. Paul had written twice ‘put on’ and the first time he said put on the armor of light and second time he said put on the Lord Jesus Christ. Now what is the armor of light? I believe Paul was telling the Christians to put on Jesus Christ as He is the light of the world. It is written in John 8:12 Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.” Jesus said He was the light of the world after those who brought the woman who committed adultery to Him and they left without the opportunity to condemn her. I believe Jesus was talking to the Pharisees because in John 8:13 the Pharisees were talking to Him.

Jesus told us that whoever follows Him shall have the light of life (able to see the truth of your life) and will never ever (shall not is ou me in Greek and it is a double negative word as explained by Pastor Joseph Prince) walk in darkness (not knowing the truth that can set you free). I shall explain the truth later as it is a piece of the armor of God. He told the Pharisees that whoever follows Him shall never be in darkness. This is because the Pharisees thought they were walking in the light as they had the law and scripture in their head. But Jesus knew they were walking in darkness, otherwise they would not condemn sinners so quickly with no intention of leading them to God.

God the Holy Spirit has confirmed that Jesus Christ indeed is the light of the world. It is written in John 1:4-9 In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it. There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. This man came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all through him might believe. He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light. That was the true Light which gives light to every man coming into the world. Jesus Christ is the true light that reveals the truth to mankind so that we can be free from the lies of the devil and live a life of abundance. Since Jesus is the light of the world we ought to put on the Lord Jesus Christ as the armor of light.

Why did Paul use the armor of light? This is because we are in spiritual war at all times with the devil. Satan hates it the moment you accept Jesus in your life and he will do something to torture you to upset God. Therefore in order to win a war, soldiers need armor, so Jesus has become our armor to stand against the devil’s attacks and overcome. Now I shall explain the full armor of God (which is seven-piece armor).

The first thing Paul told us to put on is the belt of truth. It is written Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth (Ephesians 6:14). Actually the KJV translates what the original Greek says: having your loins girt with truth. This means secure your loins with the belt of truth. What is loin? It is hip level. I believe the bible is talking about procreative power because loin is regarded as the source of procreative power. Therefore God wants us to secure our procreative power with the belt of truth so that we can produce and be fruitful in life.

What is truth? It is written in John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” Now what is the truth that Jesus is showing us? The truth is you never need to do anything for God, all you have to do is just to believe His grace and receive all the goodness He has for you. Why do I say this? This is because truth and grace is one. It is written in John 1:14-17 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. John bore witness of Him and cried out, saying, “This was He of whom I said, ‘He who comes after me is preferred before me, for He was before me.’” And of His fullness we have all received, and grace for grace. For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.

Jesus showed grace when He was on earth. He declared He is the truth in John 14:6 therefore He showed grace to the woman caught in adultery by not condemning her of her sinful act and then told her not to sin anymore. What is grace? It is written in Romans 11:6 And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. Grace means it is not of any works from you, but a gift from God or His unmerited favor to you. There is power in the grace of God, because Peter who denied Jesus three times was not condemned by the Lord, but the Lord restored him by His grace and then Peter was so transformed that he was able to get 3,000 saved on the Day of Pentecost.

Once you know the truth that God had sent His only Son Jesus Christ to die on the cross His grace can be unleashed to you.

It is written in John 8:31-32 Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” What did Jesus say that they needed to abide in His words? It is written in John 8:28 Then Jesus said to them, “When you lift up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am He, and that I do nothing of Myself; but as My Father taught Me, I speak these things”. This means when Jesus was crucified at the cross, they would know that He was the One God sent. If you believe that Jesus is crucified for your sins and believe He is the Son of God and His deity, you shall be free from every bondage and sin.

Are you lacking in any area? Then there might be some truth you need to discover from the Lord. If you are lacking health, be sure and certain that the Lord has given you a healthy body in this world to live in. it is written in 1 John 4:17 that as Jesus is at the right hand of the Father, so are you in this world. Jesus is super healthy in heaven therefore you can also be healthy. If you think that you are sick because of some sin you commit, then you must know the truth that Jesus has already dealt the problem of sins in our lives. It is written in Ephesians 1:7 In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace. The word of God does not say your forgiveness of sins is according to your confession. God did not just give us one bible verse to tell us that all our sins are forgiven not because of our confession. John also told us this truth; it is written in 1 John 2:2 And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the whole world. Propitiation means atonement so our sins are atoned for by Jesus Himself. Peter also said the same thing in 1 Peter 2:24 who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness—by whose stripes you were healed. Peter told us that because of Jesus’ crucifixion on the cross we are free from the condemnation of sins. God has used the three great apostles to tell us the same truth.

If you are in need of money or have debt to pay, then you need to know this truth: you are rich in Christ. It is written in 2 Corinthians 8:9 For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that you through His poverty might become rich. It is also written in Proverbs 8:21 That I may cause those who love me to inherit wealth, that I may fill their treasuries. The reason you are in lack financially is because the devil sees the blessing God is pouring out on you so he is doing whatever he can to make you think that it is God’s will for you to be poor and be in lack. If you accept this lie from Satan as truth, then it is difficult for the Lord to bless you with wealth, as you will not be sensitive to move according to His Holy Spirit’s leading to the life of prosperity.

If you have many worries about family, career or business, then know this truth: God wants you to live a carefree life. Jesus told us in Matthew 6:25-34 that God provides provision to the birds of the air, and causes the lilies of the field to grow so well on the inside and outside (appearance). Therefore we, believers of Jesus, never need to worry about single thing in life. If you are still anxious or worry, then hear what Paul had to say in Philippians 4:6-7 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Paul told us that if we are anxious, then open your mouth to pray and talk to God, and His peace shall fill your heart and mind. I shall share at a later part about prayer as it is also a piece of the armor of God.

There is so much truth in the bible, so if you are not liberated in any area, ask the Lord to show you His word which is the truth so that you shall be free because it is written that you shall know the truth and then the word of God (which is the truth) shall make you free (John 8:32). Therefore the truth is the first thing you need to have, and Jesus is the truth you need. He is everything you need or want in life; He is your provision, He is your health, He is your joy, He is your peace, etc.

After you have secured your procreative power with the truth, you shall put on the righteousness of God. It is written in Ephesians 6:14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness. Now why did Paul use righteousness as a breastplate for the armor of God to stand against Satan? Breastplate protects your body in times of war, especially your heart; therefore the righteousness of God protects your vital area (which is your heart; something that is critical to you). What is the vital area in your life? Is it your family, your ministry or your career or business? Whatever the vital area of your life is, believe that the righteousness of God shall protect you from all harm. Have this truth that you are the righteousness of God in Christ. It is written in 2 Corinthians 5:21 For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. It is also written that blessings of God are on the head of the righteous in Proverbs 10:6. What are the blessings Proverbs 10:6 is talking about? I sincerely believe it is the blessing of Deuteronomy 28. God has promised in Deuteronomy 28:7 that He will cause the enemies who rise against His people (Christians) to flee if they try to attack them. Therefore have this confidence that the Lord is protecting you from all danger.

After you have put on the righteousness of God to protect your vital area(s), then it is time to walk with the peace of God that the righteousness of God produces in you. It is written in Ephesians 6:15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace. God wants us to walk with the peace of God that comes from the good news of Christ to prepare us for events that might cause disturbance in our hearts. Jesus has given us His peace which is Shalom in Hebrew, and it is written in John 14:27 Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. Jesus knew that as long as we are still in this fallen world, there will be times that the devil can cause our hearts to be troubled or anxious, so He told us in advance to be prepared to still our hearts with His peace that is already in our spirit. Paul has already told us the way to let the peace of Christ to reign again if our hearts are troubled, and it is by prayer with thanksgiving (Philippians 4:6-7).

Next the Lord wants us to know that as long as we are walking with His peace in our hearts and minds, we are walking in faith. It is written in Ephesians 6:16 above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. If you think you are walking by faith but most of the time you are not at rest in your heart and mind, then you are not walking by faith. I shall show you what the bible says. It is written in Hebrews 4:10-11 KJV For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his. Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief. The Lord wants us to know that if we are unable to rest, then we do not walk by faith. I shall share at a later date about this topic.

I want to thank the Lord for Pastor Joseph Prince because he is the one who brought to my attention that the shield of faith is made of water. Only water shield can quench the fiery darts from Satan. Why did God use water as the shield of faith to protect us from the devil’s attacks? This is because the word of God and the Holy Spirit are both described as water. It is in Ephesians 5:26 that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word. This verse has clearly shown us that the word of God is water. Now the Holy Spirit, it is written John 7:38 KJV He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. Then in John 7:39 it is written that Jesus actually spoke concerning the Holy Spirit so the Holy Spirit is also water in the bible.

Why did God associate the word of God and the Holy Spirit with faith? It is written Romans 10:17 So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. The word of God can cause faith to come and your faith can grow as you continue to feed on His word, especially what Jesus is to you. Now about the Holy Spirit, it is written in John 14:26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you. The Holy Spirit shall teach you all things; what to do in times of dilemma or trouble. The Holy Spirit shall also teach you the word of God (this is what He is doing to me) with understanding so that you shall truly be rooted in the truth, and He shall remind you of God’s word in times of trouble or worry. It shall never ever be your puny ability to memorize the word of God or to understand His word. It shall always be God the Holy Spirit giving you the ability to remember His word and the understanding. Therefore you need the word of God for the Holy Spirit to give you understanding of God’s word so that your faith shall spring forth and grow strong and the devil cannot deceive you with his lies.

After you have faith because you are walking with the peace of God (resting your heart and mind), and then you shall the knowledge that you can never lose your salvation in Christ. It is written in Ephesians 6:17 And take the helmet of salvation. What is the purpose of the helmet? It is to protect the head. A soldier needs to have his helmet on at all times to protect his head. Do you know that spiritual war is in your head? It is written in 2 Corinthians 10:3-5 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ. The devil attacks our mind with his deceitful thoughts. He has deceived some believers of Jesus Christ into believing that they can lose their salvation if they ever commit the unpardonable sin. I was affected by that lie before and I am sure many believers are also affected by this lie.

Let’s look at the unpardonable sin. It is written in Matthew 12:31-32 Therefore I say to you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven men. Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man, it will be forgiven him; but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven him, either in this age or in the age to come. Why did Jesus speak these words and who did He speak to? The Pharisees spoke against Jesus when He had cast out a demon from a man who was blind and mute and then he could see and speak. People praised Jesus and the Pharisees were envied and then said Jesus cast out demons by the power of Satan. This caused Jesus to talk about the unpardonable sin.

If a believer speaks against Jesus Christ and His finished work, he can be forgiven. Now what does it mean he who speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven? This means if anyone who does not agree with what the Holy Spirit says about the salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ and keep rejecting His voice and the gift, he will not be able to be forgiven by God. This is the unpardonable sin Lord Jesus is talking about. I want to give credit for this unpardonable sin understanding to Pastor Joseph Prince. He is the one who helps me to understand better. Why did I say that it is keep rejecting the voice of the Holy Spirit and the gift of God?

This is because when Jesus cast out demons and healed the sick, He is declaring to them that the kingdom of God had come to them, but the Pharisees refused to believe the miracle works He did was by the power of the Holy Spirit (who is the Spirit of God) and the miracles are signs pointing them to Jesus who is the Messiah. The miracles are voice from the Holy Spirit telling the people to believe Jesus is the Lamb of God who would take away the sins of the world. The Pharisees not only refused to believe but actually said that the miracle works are the voice of Satan, so Jesus told them that if they refused to hear the voice of the Holy Spirit, they will not be forgiven because they rejected the One who can forgive them of all their sins.

The word of God wants us to renew our mind. It is written in Romans 12:2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. How do you know what is good in God’s eyes, what is acceptable to Him and what is His will? You need the bible to know all these, therefore renew your mind with the word of God every day. The reason the Lord wants us to renew our mind with His word is so that when Satan attacks our mind with his lies, we will not be deceived and then fall into temptation or trial.

When you have the knowledge that you are forever secured with the salvation of God in Christ, you shall then learn to use the word of God to counterattack the devil’s attacks and use the word to change the negative circumstances. It is written in Ephesians 6:17 and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. I have mentioned before that the word of God is spirit; it is written in John 6:63 The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life. What is the purpose of speaking the word of God and how do you use it? It is written in Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. The word of God is also described as a sword that can pierce through our soul and spirit, even to our thoughts and intentions.

I have explained in revelation The Difference Between Speaking Out And Meditating The Word that the two-edged sword actually means double-mouth or two-mouth. This means in order for the word of God to be like a sword, you need to speak out the word of God. The word of God first proceeded out of the mouth of God (the first mouth) and then when you speak, the word proceeds out of your mouth (second mouth) so it has become a double-mouth and it shall be a sword for you against the devil. Remember as you keep on speaking the word of God regarding your situation or problem, you are building faith as the Holy Spirit shall use the word of God to give you understanding and then joy and peace shall fill your heart and mind for you to be at rest.

Jesus had demonstrated to us the power of the word of God when He was tempted by Satan in the wilderness after forty days of fasting. Jesus said three times it is written to overcome the temptations of Satan. There is power in speaking out the word of God over your trials or problems, and the word of God can activate His angels to move for you. This is the reason I would encourage believers to speak out the word of God over their problems and learn to give thanks that God has heard it and answered it.

Finally the last piece of the armor is prayer. It is written in Ephesians 6:18 praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints. Paul told us to pray always and he specifically mentioned pray in the Spirit, and what is praying in the Spirit? It is written in 1 Corinthians 14:14 For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful. Therefore Paul told us to pray in tongues every day as often as possible. I shall tell you that the reason I am able to have understanding on the word of God and able to recite over 250 bible verses is because I pray in tongues a lot (every morning, afternoon and evening). Now why did Paul tell us to pray in tongues? Isn’t praying with words of understanding better?

It is written in Romans 8:26-27 Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God. The reason we pray in tongues is because the Holy Spirit knows how to pray and His prayer shall empower our weaknesses, and He can use our mouth to pray for others according to the will of God.

There is another purpose for praying in tongues a lot. It is written in Jude 1:20 But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit. When you pray a lot in tongues, you are building up your faith and this faith shall shield you from the attacks of the devil. You are attacking the devil by speaking with tongues and also defend yourself as faith shall arise and grow by the Holy Spirit.

I shall summarize the complete armor of God. Secure yourself with the truth so that you can be fruitful and then always call upon Jesus who is your righteousness if the devil is attacking your vital area(s). Then you will know that Jesus is your righteousness, you can walk with the peace of the good news of Christ (peace shall come from knowing what Jesus has done for you) to prepare you for trials and tribulations. Once you are walking with relaxation in your heart and mind, you are walking by faith, and whatever the devil tries to attack, your peace shall not be affected, if it is does, then pray in tongues to let the peace of God to reign again. And the Holy Spirit can use the word of God to bring you peace again to fend you from the devil’s attacks, and you shall believe that God is taking care of every detail for you.

As long as you are walking with the peace of God in your heart and mind, you are living in the faith of God, and eventually you will be certain in your head that you can never lose your salvation because this salvation does not come because of you but it is the gift of God (according to Ephesians 2:8-9). Then you will learn to treasure the word of God and you might even memorize the word of God to overcome your trial and temptation. As you keep on focusing the word of God, you will be led to pray in tongues to gain more understanding of the word and the Lord shall be able to use you to cover other believers with prayers of the Holy Spirit.

In short, put on Jesus Christ by speaking the word of God and praying in tongues to stand victoriously in Christ against the devil.

Be sure to put on the complete armor of God and not partial armor. What do I mean? There are believers believing that Jesus has saved them from hell (believe they have received their salvation), but they do not believe that their righteousness is in Christ and not dependent on their performance, because they believe they can lose their standing with God if they sin. This is what I mean putting on partial armor of God and not complete armor.

Putting on full complete armor of God means you just believe whatever you need is in Jesus Christ. If you need faith, Jesus is your faith; it is written in Hebrews 12:2 NIV fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. If you need peace, Jesus is your peace; it is written in Romans 5:1 Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. If you feel you are not holy enough, Jesus is your sanctification; it is written in 1 Corinthians 1:30 But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God—and righteousness and sanctification and redemption.

Therefore calling upon Jesus for whatever you need means you are putting on Jesus Christ (you are putting on the complete armor of God), but do not stop there, speak out the bible verse(s) as the Spirit leads you and speak with tongues as often as possible.

Hallelujah!!! This is a long revelation. I thank the Lord for giving me the words and understanding to write. I pray the Lord gives you the understanding too as you read. Be greatly blessed. Shalom Shalom.
